Steel fibers for concrete reinforcement, know its advantages

RIMSA is a medium-sized family business, established in 1985, dedicated to the manufacture and commercialization of steel fibers for concrete reinforcement (FRC), for application in all types of industrial, prefabricated and tunnel floors, among many others.

As a consequence of numerous studies carried out in collaboration with the University of Barcelona in the late 1990s in search of an alternative to traditional mesh that would improve the properties of concrete, today RIMSA could be considered one of the main suppliers of steel fiber for concrete reinforcement in Spain.

And what does the steel fiber contribute compared to the traditional mesh?

Steel fibers significantly improve the ductility of concrete.

The main advantages offered by the application of steel fibers for concrete reinforcement are:

Reduction of cost and weight.
Greater durability of concrete, because the steel fibers control cracking and prevent the propagation of cracks.
The application of steel fibers is faster and easier, avoiding the need for qualified personnel and increasing worker safety.
It greatly improves the ductility of the concrete, avoiding its brittleness and increasing the flexural strength.
Greater resistance to impacts and repetitive efforts.
The entire volume of the concrete is reinforced by the homogeneous three-dimensional distribution of the steel fibers in the concrete.
Prevention of oxidation. The mesh can oxidize if any of its parts is exposed to air, this causes the contact of the reinforcement to be Rust – Concrete, reducing the adhesion and therefore, reducing the reinforcement.

It should also be noted that steel fibers for concrete reinforcement are the most effective and economical alternative.

The properties of steel fibers are:

The modulus of elasticity of steel is 7 times greater than that of concrete.
High elongation at break.
Good adhesion to concrete.
They mix easily with concrete.

Its most common applications are the following:

Industrial or commercial flooring and flooring
Precast concrete
Tunnels
Solar
Bridge structures
Refractory concrete (foundry, heat treatment furnaces, etc.)
Special pavements (Underwater constructions, airport runways, etc.)
Mining or on slopes
Security enclosures (Vaults, ATMs, etc.)
Any concrete pavement such as ramps, parking lots and roads, etc.
Repair of floors and breaks.
