Data from ACCIÓ’s latest industry report confirms that the Catalan battery sector is not only growing but accelerating exponentially:

  • Record Growth: The sector generates a combined turnover of 1,044 million euros (2023 data), representing a spectacular 53% increase compared to the previous year.
  • Dynamic Business Fabric: A total of 267 companies make up this value chain (a 26% increase), providing direct employment to 4,476 workers (a 49% increase).
  • Diversity and Specialization: The ecosystem boasts excellent structural health, with two-thirds (67%) of businesses being SMEs and 17% being startups. The value chain covers application and battery integration (35.2%), manufacturing & systems (21%), engineering & consulting (16.9%), and charger manufacturing for EVs (15.4%). Additionally, the industry is highly internationalized, with 56% of companies exporting and 29% operating as foreign subsidiaries.

This robust industrial network is strongly supported by a solid research infrastructure, including top-tier regional technology centers and universities such as Eurecat, Leitat, CITCEA-UPC, and IREC.
